2020 has been quite the year: I graduated, had my job offer rescinded, turned 22, got a new job (woo!), and started my blog. Oh, and COVID was taking over the world. But what also deserves to be added into that list of ‘pretty big life changes’? Getting an air fryer (okay, and finding out you can make dessert apple egg rolls).
But, seriously an air fryer is life changing!
I received mine as a birthday present in August and since then have used it almost daily. Whenever anyone asks if they should get one my answer is pretty much always YES! It’s pretty awesome. It’s a huge time saver and makes food perfectly crispy.
Here is the one that I have (and love!). *I’m updating this post nearly two years later to confirm that my air fryer is still just as magical as it was when I got it! Oh, and COVID is still taking over the world.
I’m not big on frying food because it doesn’t make me feel great and honestly, kind of scares me. But with my air fryer I can now make all of the foods I never would have before…like egg rolls! And not just any egg rolls, apple egg rolls!

So next time you’re wanting a quick but impressive looking dessert, grab a few apples, some egg-less egg roll wrappers and you’re set.
Oh, and what makes these even better? The easiest caramel dipping sauce – two minutes and five ingredients later and you’ll have a decadent dipping sauce. I actually use this sauce on just about everything: oatmeal, ice cream, and now egg rolls!
Also wrapping egg rolls is surprisingly easy – and kind of fun! If you’re new to the egg roll world, I recommend watching a tutorial on YouTube (like this one). Watching someone else do it will be much easier than hearing me describe it! I do recommend having some water nearby to seal the corners with, it makes a huge difference.
How to Make Apple Egg Rolls:
To make these apple egg rolls, start by chopping the apples into small cubes. Next, add the following ingredients to a pan over medium heat, along with the chopped apples.
- Coconut sugar
- Cinnamon
- Lemon juice
- Coconut oil
- Vanilla
Sauté for 5-7 minutes. Then, mix together the corn starch and water until combined, and add it to the pan and bring to a boil. Once it’s boiling, reduce heat to a simmer for around 5 minutes, or until the apples are tender. Remove the apple mixture from the heat and let cool.
Now comes the fun part! Once cool, add about 1-2 tbsp of the apple mixture to the egg roll wrapper and wrap. Place four in the air fryer at 390F and set the timer for 4 minutes. Then flip and air fry for another 4 minutes. Let cool and serve with the caramel sauce and some vanilla ice cream!
How Long do Apple Egg Rolls Keep?
While these apple egg rolls taste best fresh, they keep in the fridge for 3-4 days. Just add them to the air fryer for 1-2 minutes before serving!
The caramel sauce can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days, but will harden because of the coconut oil. So, make sure to store it in a microwave-safe container! When ready to use reheat for 10-20 seconds or until warm.
And yes, you can even get super fancy with them and dip them in chocolate!
If you try them out, I would love it if you left a review below or tagged @nourishedwithnatalie on Instagram.
