Good for You – Smoothies are such an easy and delicious way to get a variety of plant based foods in your diet. If you have a picky eater at home (or are one!) smoothies are perfect for sneaking in those extra nutrients.

BENEFITS OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar that is made from fermented apples. You’ll often see it listed in recipes for everything from salad dressings and stews to pancakes. Or, sometimes even as a haircare or skincare ingredient. Safe to say it has endless uses!

But, there’s also lots of studies that have shown it can have various potential benefits. It can help with insulin and lower blood sugar levels (source) and lower cholesterol (source). A lot of individuals swear by adding it to their diet for help with weight loss, digestive issues and gut health as well.

With that being said, you shouldn’t consume it without diluting it first, as the acid can cause damage to your tooth enamel. While you can dilute it in water, it has a pungent taste. So, adding it to a smoothie is one of the best ways to reap the benefits!

For the best apple cider vinegar, I highly recommend Bragg Organic. I’ve used it consistently over the years and it never disappoints.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (WITH SUBSTITUTIONS)

To make this delicious smoothie you will need the following ingredients:

Non-dairy Milk: Any plant milk is fine to use in this recipe. Almond milk, oat milk, and soy milk are all good options.

Banana: Banana adds fiber and antioxidants to this smoothie. Plus, they make smoothies extra creamy and filling. Not a banana fan? You can sub a half cup of wild blueberries, pineapple or mango. Frozen or fresh fruits is fine!

Dairy-free Yogurt: Probiotics, fiber, calcium, and protein are all benefits of vegan yogurts! For this smoothie, I recommend choosing an unsweetened yogurt, as the dates and banana already add a sweet flavor to this smoothie.

If you want your smoothie to have an extra creamy texture, make sure to choose a thick vegan greek yogurt. If wanting to substitute, I recommend adding an additional half a banana.

Apple Cider Vinegar: The star of the smoothie! As mentioned above apple cider vinegar can help improve digestion, lower blood sugar, and more. Apple cider vinegar is a strong flavor on it’s own and is not only tastier diluted, but also better for your enamel. Thus, by hiding it in this smoothie we get the benefits without having to taste it or ruin our teeth!

Dates: I love using dates as a natural sweetener in smoothies. Because apple cider vinegar is especially tart, I find the sweetness of the dates help counteract the flavor. Or, you can also sub a splash of maple syrup. If you want to make this smoothie lower in sugar, simply omit the dates.

Cinnamon: If you’ve never put cinnamon in a smoothie before, you’ll be amazed at how much flavor it adds! It adds the perfect burst of spice that complements the almond butter and banana so well.

Almond Butter: For healthy fats, we’re adding a bit of almond butter. You can sub any nut butter, however almond / cashew are my personal favorites as they add a bit of flavor without overpowering the smoothie.

Ice Cubes: If using frozen banana, feel free to omit. But, if using fresh fruit make sure to add some ice as it makes your smoothie nice and cold.

P.S. If wanting to add vegetables to this smoothie I recommend adding cauliflower or carrots. Or, turn it into a green smoothie by adding a handful of spinach or kale.
