BENEFITS OF COCONUT WATER

Not only is coconut water refreshing and delicious, but it’s also packed with benefits.

But first, what is coconut water? The clear liquid found inside coconuts is what is known as coconut water. It has a slightly sweet, slightly salty taste. It’s a bit of an acquired taste, but I personally love it and find it super refreshing.

However, in a smoothie the taste is concealed by fruit, so even if you aren’t a fan of coconut water you will most likely still enjoy this smoothie!

I love using coconut water in my smoothies because it’s packed with electrolytes – specifically potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Did you know a cup of coconut water has more potassium than a medium sized banana?! This makes it a great post-workout recovery drink. I’ve also heard it’s a good hangover cure, but I can’t verify that haha.

Besides aiding in hydration, it also may reduce blood sugar, improve heart-health, and help with acne (read more on the benefits here and here).

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (WITH SUBSTITUTIONS)

To make this green smoothie with coconut water you will need the following ingredients:

Ingredients needed for a smoothie laid out on top of table

Coconut Water â€“ The base of this recipe is coconut water. Make sure to buy pure unsweetened coconut water for the most benefits.

Mango â€“ Adding fresh or frozen mango adds a delicious, tropical flavor. Plus, it’s a great source of Vitamin C, magnesium, and antioxidants! Feel free to sub the mango with a different fruit of choice.

Banana â€“ Fresh or frozen bananas lends this smoothie a creamy texture. And, it adds fiber and antioxidants. For a thicker consistently, make sure to use frozen banana.

Spinach â€“ Adding a cup of spinach to this smoothie adds a TON of great benefits. Spinach is rich in nutrients, like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin K. Plus, it’s packed with iron and fiber as well. But don’t worry, this smoothie does not taste like spinach at all. Out of spinach? You can substitute kale.

Fresh Ginger â€“ For an optional zesty kick, I like to add a teaspoon of fresh grated ginger. Ginger is great for digestion, nausea, and boosting the immune system.

Ice – If using all fresh fruit, I highly recommend adding a cup of ice to make this smoothie extra refreshing.
