The Best Places to Buy Kitchen Ceramics From In 2023

This post covers the best places to buy kitchen ceramics and dishes.

I don’t know about you, but I looooove adding to my dish-ware collection. I find it makes such a difference in displaying prepared food! With that being said, I’ve found that it can be pretty tricky to find good quality dishes that are affordable. But whether you’re looking for fancy dinner plates or casual cereal bowls – I’ve put together the ultimate list of the best places to buy dishes.

HOW THIS LIST IS ORGANIZED

I’ve broken down this list into two categories: large shops and small businesses. If you can, I definitely recommend shopping small for speciality dish-ware, like ceramics! I think it’s so cool to think that someone made that piece especially for me. But, it can definitely be pricey, so I wanted to include some more affordable options as well. And honestly, I really do love all my dishes from places like Crate & Barrel and Target!

If you are looking for fun, individual dish pieces I recommend starting at the small shop section, but if you’re looking at purchasing sets (specifically ones that won’t break the bank), you may want to skip to the large shop section.

And with that said, let’s dive in!

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I’ll receive a commission if you purchase through my link at no extra cost to you. Please read full disclosure here.

BEST LARGE SHOPS TO BUY KITCHEN DISHES/CERAMICS

Crate & Barrel is hands down my number one recommendation for buying affordable, quality dishes. I love my Crate & Barrel pieces because they are dishwasher and microwave friendly. I have a few plates from them and love them all!

My favorites:

Goodies is an incredible ceramics store that actually has an in-store location in LA. Fortunately for us not living there, they have an online store!  I absolutely love Goodies, it’s a hidden gem for sure. The pieces are affordable (everything is under $25), wonderful quality, and shipping isn’t too bad either. One day I will probably make a trip to LA just for Goodies and it would be worth it! I have a ton of pieces from Goodies, and am basically a walking ad for them at this point. But, seriously they make such beautiful, durable dishes.

The only reason it isn’t my number one recommendation is because they do tend to be out of stock often. I find that signing up for notifications for specific items works out super well. Anytime they are out of stock, I just ask to be notified.

What can Target not do? They have some seriously cute kitchen items and their ceramics are no exception! They don’t have as wide of a variety of Crate + Barrel, but I definitely recommend checking out their selection. I’ve gotten a few plates and bowls from there for under $10 and they have been great quality!

My favorites:

I haven’t bought a lot of dishes from Amazon but if I have something specific in mind that I can’t find elsewhere I always check Amazon to see if they have it. Otherwise I would just get overwhelmed going through all of their options!

One thing that I have bought from Amazon that I have absolutely loved is this 6 piece set of single-serve pink ramekins. They are perfect for baked oats!

For the last store, we have…. Urban Outfitters!

They have a wide variety of cute dishes from bowls, to plates, to cups, to spoons. They’re pretty inexpensive too, but each has slight individual differences. With that being said, I have quite a few things from there and love them all!

Here are my favorites:

BEST SMALL (ONLINE) BUSINESSES TO BUY KITCHEN DISHES/CERAMICS

Hands down one of the best places to buy from independent sellers is Etsy. I’ve gotten a lot of ceramic bowls and plates from Etsy and I have yet to be disappointed! They all came packaged extremely well and were beautiful. The downside with purchasing from Etsy is that sellers are constantly rotating their stock and/or taking breaks. So, if you buy one piece and want another, it’s hard to guarantee.

Two sellers I love who have consistent shops are:

  • OrlinStoya – I have a few plates from his shop and they are absolutely stunning and are priced pretty reasonably. I paid 42 dollars for one large and small plate and they feel extremely sturdy!
  • MilletandHammer – I have yet to purchase from this shop, but it’s on my list. They have extremely well priced dish-ware and great reviews!

Ohhhmygosh. Earth and Element is definitely a splurge, but I have to say it is WORTH it. Their pieces are seriously beautiful. I have two pieces from them and I adore them.

Earth and Element Eat Well Do Good x Natures Path Bowl

They are made to order so they take a bit longer but I think I received them within three weeks of purchasing which isn’t bad at all. I have the Eat Well Do Good x Natures Path bowl ($65) and the pink cup and saucer set ($45).

P.S. If you’re having trouble spending 65 dollars on a single bowl (I feel ya!) for that specific piece, 100% of the profits go back to Natures Path food bank partners. That made it a lot easier to reason with myself, haha!

For the next three sellers, they are all individuals/small businesses I have found through Instagram. Some of their stock sells out QUICK. Like set a timer for when they launch, quick! The first two I listed usually have some in stock at all times, but Mary Carroll Ceramics has launches every few months that seem to sell out right away.

I haven’t personally purchased from them (again, yet!) but based on how many happy customers they have I feel comfortable recommending them here.

If you have any smaller shops you’ve bought from that you would like me to include in this list, leave a comment below! I’d be happy to check them out.

Two quick notes:

  • The small shops I listed all sell handmade ceramics, so they are a bit rougher on the bottom and are hand-wash encouraged (you can dishwash most of them, if not all, but hand washing is recommended for preserving them). I’ve found that buying doiles and placing them between my plates/bowls helps to make sure they don’t scratch.
  • And, since they are handmade individual differences do occur, so if you decide to order them they may not look exactly like mine!

And with that, next up we have the large(r) shops and more affordable options.

And with that, those are my favorite places to buy kitchen dishes. If you have any other places you recommend, please comment them below – I’m always looking to discover new stores!

  1. I just purchased a 16 piece place setting on sale at Kirklands for $33. They are terracotta color for fall. It was a great deal.
