This chocolate date latte is the grown up version of a hot chocolate and it’s the perfect drink to sip on at any time of the day! I love having a glass with my breakfast, but having one as I wind down for the night is equally comforting.
Every time I take a sip of this drink, I’m instantly transported to cozy fall days, layered in blankets while watching a movie. If you’re looking for a relaxing drink to incorporate into your morning or night routine – this is it!
Plus, I love that it can be enjoyed by itself, with coffee, or even topped with whipped cream and/or marshmallows. And, I’m a firm believer that warm drinks always taste better out of cute mugs. So, if you feel the same way you can find my favorite kitchen ceramics here!

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS RECIPE
Calming Drink – This latte is the perfect relaxing way to wind down for the night. Or, the perfect drink to start a slow Sunday morning.
Easy to Make – With just a few simple ingredients, this drink is incredibly easy to make. While it does require a pot and blender, it still comes together unbelievably quick.
Healthy & Delicious – My favorite combination, this drink is both healthy and delicious. It’s packed with good-for-you ingredients and sweetened naturally with dates.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED (WITH SUBSTITUTIONS)
This chocolate date latte is made of just five simple ingredients, it’ll be ready to enjoy in no time!
Non-dairy milk – This is the base of the chocolate date latte. You can use any plant milk that you prefer (almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, etc). Or, for an even richer and creamier latte you can use coconut milk.
Cacao Powder – Cacao is responsible for the chocolate flavor in this latte! I like using cacao powder because it’s a great source of iron, protein, fiber, and magnesium. You can also use the same amount of cocoa powder and it will yield a similar taste.
Pitted Dates – My favorite natural sweetener – dates add a touch of sweetness to this latte. And, a subtle caramel-like taste. While dates are my number one choice for this latte, if needed you can substitute maple syrup.
Cinnamon – Cinnamon transforms this drink into a rich, sophisticated hot chocolate! Feel free to add whatever spices are your favorite – I think ginger, cloves nutmeg, etc would all pair well.
Vanilla Extract – A bit of vanilla enhances the flavors and levels up this drink!
HOW TO MAKE THIS LATTE
Making this drink is super simple, it just requires three steps. For full instructions and ingredients make sure to see the recipe card below.
Step 1: To make this drink add all the ingredients into a pot. Bring to a low boil, and whisk to combine. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Carefully transfer the ingredients to a blender. If using cinnamon sticks, make sure to remove them before adding. Blend for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
Step 3: Pour into a mug and enjoy! Top with coconut whipped cream and cinnamon, if desired.
PLUS, IT’S HORMONE HEALTHY
One of my favorite parts about this drink is that it’s hormone friendly! I’ve been working on incorporating more hormone healthy foods and practices in my life – and this is one of my favorites.
It’s packed with magnesium from the raw cacao, which is helpful in reducing stress and keeping hormones happy! Plus, dates are used as a natural sweetener, which helps keep your blood sugar balanced compared to processed alternatives.
And, add in anti-inflammatory spices like cinnamon, to not only boost flavor but to also add antioxidants. You can also add in ingredients like maca (fertility boosting), ashwagandha (stress relieving), or reishi mushroom (boosts immune system) for an easy superfood boost.
If you’re trying to reduce your caffeine intake, it’s a great way to replace your morning coffee. Or, if you do want to add coffee it will help create a more balanced drink!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Definitely! If you want to add a boost of caffeine to this drink you can add a shot or two of espresso. Or, add about a half cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Yep! While I do prefer this drink hot, you can definitely have it iced as well. Just fill a cup with ice and pour over the drink.
STORAGE & REHEATING
This latte is best enjoyed fresh. However, if there are leftovers, pour them in a mason jar and keep in the fridge for 1-2 days. Before enjoying, give the jar a shake to mix everything up.
Enjoy as an iced drink by pouring the over ice cubes or pour leftovers in a pot and heat until warm.
