Vegan Frozen Yogurt (without ice cream maker)
This vegan frozen yogurt is unbelievably easy, creamy, and delicious while only requiring 2 ingredients (yes, two!). And, you don’t even need an ice cream maker for this dairy-free dessert! Need I say more?!

I am a HUGE fro-yo fan, which is why it makes me so disappointed when the vegan options are limited! But worry no more, making frozen yogurt at home is so good and easy, like you can make it in 5 minutes easy.
And, did I mention this recipe has NO bananas? Don’t get me wrong I love bananas, but sometimes nice cream just doesn’t cut it.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS RECIPE
Easy to Customize – While this frozen yogurt is made with just 2 ingredients, you can get as fancy as you want with add-ins and/or toppings. Make sure to scroll below to see all the different variations you can try out.
Minimal Ingredients – Just non-dairy yogurt and a sweetener of choice is all that is needed to make this delicious frozen treat. It’s the perfect dessert to whip up on a hot summer day.
Healthy – This frozen yogurt is a great healthy alternative to ice cream! If you want to make it even healthier, you can always reduce the sweetener amount.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED (WITH SUBSTITUTIONS)
To make this delicious frozen treat you will need the following ingredients:
Non-dairy Yogurt: Of course we need non-dairy yogurt to make this recipe! In order to get the best, creamy consistency it’s important to use a vegan-friendly Greek style yogurt. A super thin, runny yogurt will yield an icier end result. So for best results I highly recommend using coconut yogurt, cashew based yogurt, or Kite Hills’ Greek yogurt.
Maple Syrup/Agave: Adding sweetener is necessary when using plain yogurt, otherwise it will be very, very tart. You can use any sweetener you want (even granulated should work).
If you want very sweet frozen yogurt similar to what you would get at a frozen yogurt shop (think Menchies, Red Mango, TCBY, etc), you may want to increase the sweetness. For a healthier option, you can use vanilla yogurt and skip the extra sugar.
For every 2 cups of plain yogurt, 1/4 cup of sweetener will give you a slightly sweet, slightly tart frozen yogurt. You can always add more sweetener after tasting as well!
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS
Vanilla: Adding a teaspoon of vanilla adds a nice subtle vanilla flavor if using plain yogurt.
Coconut Cream: For extra creamy frozen yogurt, add a tablespoon or two of coconut cream (aka the chilled part of full-fat coconut milk).
HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE
Making this frozen yogurt is so easy. For ingredient amounts and full instructions on how to make read the recipe card below.
Step One: First, add the yogurt to an ice cube tray. Or, any other silicone mold with small sections. Then, leave in the freezer for at least 6 hours, or until frozen. You can also let it freeze overnight.

Step Two: Once frozen, add the frozen yogurt cubes and sweetener to a food processor. Then pulse, until smooth. At first it will seem crumbly, just keep pulsing! It will eventually become a smooth texture. Once semi-smooth, you can include any add-ins (such as the vanilla and/or coconut cream).

Step Three: Spoon into a bowl, add any toppings and enjoy!
FLAVOR VARIATIONS
Blueberry: Add frozen blueberries along with the rest of the ingredients to the food processor.
Chunky Monkey: Add a tablespoon or two of peanut butter and pulse. Top with sliced banana and chocolate syrup.
Double Chocolate: Add 2-3 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the mix and top with chopped chocolate.
Strawberry Cheesecake: Add strawberries and 2 tablespoons of vegan cream cheese to the batter, pulse. Then top with crushed graham crackers.
Cookies & Cream: After blending, add Oreos and pulse a few more times.
STORAGE & REHEATING
Frozen yogurt is definitely best enjoyed fresh! However, you can store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. Just make sure to let it thaw for 15-20 minutes before serving.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Is vegan frozen yogurt healthy?
Yes! Frozen yogurt is a great healthy alternative to ice cream. If you want to make it even healthier, you can skip the sweetener and just use an already lightly sweetened vanilla yogurt. Or, you can use a less refined sugar like maple syrup or agave.
2. Can I make frozen yogurt in a blender?
Yep, you can make this frozen yogurt in a high-speed blender. However, you may need to add a bit of liquid when blending, so the texture might not be as thick and creamy. I recommend placing it in the freezer for 20 minutes to let it firm up for best results!

3. What toppings should I add?
There’s a ton of different toppings you can add! If you’ve ever been to a frozen yogurt shop, you know the options are endless.
Some ideas include:
- Fruit
- Sprinkles
- Caramel
- Chocolate Sauce (I used my chocolate syrup from this recipe!).
- Whipped Cream
- Granola
