10 Best Vegan Purse Brands in 2025

Looking for the best vegan-friendly handbags that are cute, cruelty-free, and high-quality? You’re in the right place! In this post I’ve rounded up the best vegan purse brands of 2025, from everyday totes to luxury handbags.

Unfortunately, many traditional bags are made using leather that’s derived from animals and processed with harmful chemicals that can be tough on the planet (and on your health!). But thankfully there’s been a growing number of brands designing high-quality purses made with plant-based materials.

But first…

What are Vegan Purses Made Of?

Vegan purses are bags that contain no animal-derived materials. So that means no leather, suede, wool, silk, or animal-based glues. Instead, they’re made from a range of plant-based, synthetic, or recycled materials!

Here are some of the most common vegan materials you’ll find:

Polyurethane (PU) Leather: PU is a synthetic alternative that’s more eco-conscious than Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and used in a lot of vegan “leather” products/accessories.

Apple Leather: Apple leather is a material made using leftover apple skins and cores from the juicing and compote industry.

Desserto®: Desserto® is a cactus leather is made from the mature leaves of the nopal cactus.

Piñatex®: Piñatex® is a vegan leather created from pineapple leaf fibers.

Recycled PET or Nylon: Materials made using recycled plastic bottles or other post-consumer waste.

Cork: Cork is a renewable material harvested from the bark of cork oak trees where the outer bark is carefully stripped by hand about once every decade to prevent the tree from having to be torn down.

MIRUM®: A plastic-free material made from a combination of materials such as natural rubber, plant oils and cork.

BioVeg: A vegan fabric made with recycled polyester from plastic bottles and bio polyols, obtained from non-food and GMO-free corn crops.

Liquidplant: Liquidplant is a 100% plant-based, high performance topcoat.

Banbū: Banbū is 83% plant-based and made from the most renewable raw material on earth, bamboo.

Technik: Technik is a material made from plants and post-consumer plastic.

What to Avoid When Shopping for Vegan Bags:

  • Genuine Leather: Leather is not only an animal byproduct but it also requires heavy chemical processing.
  • PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): PVC is a common faux leather alternative, but one of the least eco-friendly due to toxic production practices.
  • Unlabeled Glues/Dyes: Some bags may have animal-derived glues or dyes, so it’s important to look for brands that are explicitly vegan or PETA-approved.

Now that you know what to look for and what to steer clear of, let’s dive into the best vegan purse brands for every budget and every taste!
